UPDATE 19th May 2020

Dear Parents

As you are aware the Government has asked schools to reopen to more children following half term. They issued lots of guidance for us and asked us to prioritise Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 in returning to school.

The main focus for school in the last few days, has been how we would do this in a safe way. We have been looking at the size of groups we would be able to have in a classroom and how we would organize bringing children into school in a safe way. We have also talked about how we make sure all staff and adults (including parents) who come to school are as safe as possible.

OUR UTMOST PRIORITY IS TO REDUCE THE RISK OF RETURNING TO SCHOOL TO THE LOWEST LEVEL POSSIBLE FOR YOUR CHILDREN AND THE STAFF.

UPDATE 11th May 2020

Hello parents!

I know many of you may have questions regarding Boris Johnson's speech and his referring to schools possibly reopening in June for Reception, Y1 and Y6 at first.

We know for many families you are worried about your child’s education but will also be feeling anxious and worried about what happens next and we understand that.

I can only tell you that this information is as new to us as you, and we can only wait for further advice and instruction from the Government before we plan to reopen school in any way.

As soon as we know any more information about the way forward we will update you.

Rest assured, the safety of our children, families and staff will be at the forefront of any future decisions we make. The school will only open if and when it is safe to do so in line with Government, Local Authority and DSAT advice and guidance.

Thank you for your patience.

Kind regards

Mrs Mo Andrews

 UPDATE 07-04-2020

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING FREE SCHOOL MEALS

As you will be aware the Government have introduced a Free School Meal Voucher Scheme for after the Easter Holidays. All families who are currently eligible for Free School Meals will have received a text from school.

Within school, there are two groups of pupils who receive a free meal each day:

  1. Those who qualify due to the benefits they claim and who have applied for Free School Meals through the council
  2. Those who are in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 (this is called Universal Free School Meals).

During our current school closure due to the Coronavirus epidemic, the government guidance is that those children who are eligible for Free School Meals- group number 1 above (and not Universal Free School Meals: group 2) would still continue to have access to Free School Meals during term time. In our school, we have been offering this as a ‘pack out’, which has been collected by the families of those eligible for Free School Meals. This has been continued through the Easter Holidays here at Pye Bank.

The Government have introduced a voucher scheme for after the Easter Holidays.

This will start from APRIL 14th 2020.

Coronavirus - UPDATE 20-03-20

As you know the school is closed to MOST children from Monday.

There will be a skeleton staff in place however, to support parents who are key workers. Key workers will be very important in keeping the vital services in the country up and running.

Early this morning the Government have issued guidance on who qualifies as a key worker. Please look at the guidance for parents here:

 https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/closure-of-educational-settings-information-for-parents-and-carers/closure-of-educational-settings-information-for-parents-and-carers#critical-workers

If you think you qualify please ring school as soon as possible.

If it is at all possible for children to be at home, then they should be. This is important because we are trying to keep school staff safe too.

This is ESSENTIAL child care rather than education and will be for a small group of children from all year groups. There will be fun involved!

ALL PARENTS WHOSE CHILDREN QUALIFY FOR FREE SCHOOL MEALS CAN COME TO SCHOOL TO COLLECT A MEAL FROM 11AM UNTIL 1PM EACH DAY.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A letter has been sent to children today (Thursday 19th March). A copy can be found HERE.

School is to close to the vast majority of children on Friday 20th March at 3.20pm. The school remains open for children of KEY WORKERS. If you consider that you are a key worker (definition to follow), please contact school.

For children who are entitled to FREE SCHOOL MEALS, a packed meal will be provided and can be collected from school between 11am and 1pm.
